I'm not sure if there has ever been an open source insurance project.
I have watched open source take over aspects of other industries. The most frequent use of open source is in software. Linux is, perhaps, the best example. Of course, there is Wikipedia.
My idea is to use the collective expertise of a wide variety of insurance specialists to construct a risk management tool that helps insurance people and risk managers do a better job of identifying and managing risk.
I've started with a simple list of perils and exposures. Who knows where this will lead. Please offer your two cents. Make suggestions and offer criticism. This risk management tool will grow in usefulness because you help make it so.
Please to use the list. Unless professionals use the list it will be a tool that only sits on the shelf.
My thought was that business owners would review the list, making comments and indicating areas of concern. The agent or insurance advisor will then meet with the insurance buyer to discuss the issues raised.
In short, the list is to spur conversation between the agent/advisor and the business owner.
